We covered 3681 kilometers in our Honda Jazz with Ovee in this Pune-Rajasthan-Pune road trip. She is 1.9 years old -an age when they are fidgety and constantly want to be on their toes. We had our apprehensions, but they gradually faded away. 1. First things first...the baby ought to have a car seat to itself. We placed the car seat at the back in the centre. I used to sit next to her on the left, while the seat behind the driver was reserved for her toys and food.We kept Ovee's favourite toys and books handy near the car seat so that she could be easily entertained. It was like her play area in the car. First couple of days of the journey, we let her decide where she wanted to sit, giving her subtle hints that car seat would be fun with the toys around. On day 1, she must have sat in it for 40 per cent of the time. After three-four days she realised it was more fun in the car seat and she preferred it to my lap. 2. It is just a week before we hit the road. Packing looks like a perpetual process of this roadtrip. For some, fun begins when they hit the road, For a few, fun begins when they check-in to a resort. For us, fun begins when we start planning our trip. So, the last six months have been absolute 'fun'. Following is our itinerary and we have no choice but to stick by it, since we have done booking our hotels. We start on December 6, Saturday and return on December 20, exactly two weeks later. This is the final itinerary after four rough drafts. Initially, we were planning to go to Rann of Kutch before moving on to Rajasthan. But as we researched, we realised that the awesome place deserves a full-fledged trip, So that has been kept for some other time and that was our draft one.  Secondly, we were not sure about staying at Khimsar, because it is quite far off from the urban setting and did not know what we would do in an emergency. It was also because of the overpriced resort, the only one there. Now, if we had dropped Khimsar altogether, the distance from Jaisalmer ...

It has been three years that Tejas and I took an inter-state road trip to Leh. As we complete five years of marriage this month, we are set to take off another road trip next month. Driving our car. With Ovee. For 16 days. In Rajasthan. Just the three of us. It has been long due that we hit the road and we are as excited as we were before going to Leh. However, without hiding the truth, we are more skeptical this time about Ovee adjusting to this long journey. So trusting our six-months-long planning, our efforts to consciously push our travel excitement on Ovee and relying that we have passed on enough travel genes to her, we start our trip in three weeks.
